Instagram and Pinterest Updates for 2025: Everything You Need to Know

In 2024, Instagram and Pinterest rolled out updates that set the stage for 2025. And while Meta kept us on our toes with daily Instagram tweaks, Pinterest made some quieter (but arguably better) moves. So here’s a roundup of what’s new on both platforms!

Instagram Updates: Is Meta Overdoing It?

Instagram’s New Features: Music Everywhere

Someone at Meta is clearly obsessed with music because they added it everywhere. Let’s break it down:

  • Music on profiles: MySpace vibes, anyone? Fun for showcasing your personality, but unless you’re in the music industry, it’s more of a novelty than a necessity.
  • Multiple songs in reels: Sounds chaotic, but it could work for creators experimenting with storytelling and transitions. Just don’t spend hours picking 20 perfect tracks.
  • Music in carousels: Adding music to your carousel posts now allows them to appear in the Reels tab, making it a clever way to boost visibility. However, reading educational carousels with music in the background might not exactly be everyone’s cup of tea.

20-Slide Carousels

Ever felt one slide short of a perfect carousel? Well, Instagram solved this by increasing the limit to 20 slides per post. Great for detailed guides or photo dumps—just try not to overwhelm your audience every time.

Notes on Reels

Only followers you follow back can see these, making them more of a personal touch than a reach tool. Most creators even seem to be using them as additions on their own posts, rather than interacting with others.

Reel Trials

This new feature lets you “test drive” a reel by posting it exclusively on the Explore page. Ideal for experimenting with new styles without risking your follower engagement.

New Insights for Views

Views are now the main metric across all content (not just reels). And there’s a new timeline feature that lets you track each post’s performance over time, compared to your average results.

Profile Highlights Move to a Separate Tab

Story highlights are moving to their own tab. Out of sight, out of mind? Remember how often we use Guides? Exactly.

Instagram’s New Portrait-Sized Feeds

Instagram shook its entire identity with this update. Portrait feeds are gradually replacing the classic square posts, though backlash has slowed the global rollout. Will 2025 see Instagram fully embrace this change? Only time will tell.

What’s Your Favorite Update?

Personally, we’re thrilled about Pinterest’s crystal ball feature—though I wish it came with some mystical music for the full effect! Instagram, on the other hand, feels like it’s updating just to stay in the headlines at this point. Fingers crossed they take a breather this year!
